modern typewriter fonts!

Hey everyone. What's up?

Just did a bit of fontsearch :) on Modern Typewriter Fonts! If you're wondering what Modern Typewriter fonts are, they are just updated takes on Courier New and very old typewriter fonts. (Back then they didn't have Arial & Co, or Comic Sans, for that matter!) It may sound plain, but these new updated versions are very chic, modern and well designed.

(I bet some of you have been waiting for this for a long time!)

I've created a page where you can find your own Typewriter fonts and also see what my best picks are. The best thing is: they're all free! You can donate to the designer, but you don't have to buy the actual font.

So please go and visit the Modern Typewriter Fonts Page.

Thanks!

most overused fonts

hi :)

A few days ago I started a page on the most overused fonts. please go over and check it out!

I'm still updating it (right now it only has a list of them in the wrong order) but it'll be up by the end of today. Check around after 6:00 PM today or tomorrow and it will be there by then. It's not very long so it's just a quick read! Don't forget to post a comment on the page. I'd love to hear if you agree with my choices and why!

If you're interested in reading it, just click on the blue Top 15 Most Overused Fonts link and you'll go right to the page!

I didn't add a font called Trajan although it is mentionable because it would very easily been able to be included.

Most of the fonts are normally installed on PCs but I'm not sure about Macs or Apple computers... anyway, just google an image of them because they are so widely used that Google will definitely have at least a few readable pictures of them.

thanks for reading,
Scoutie Cookie :)

What I Hate About Italic Fonts

Today I'm writing a post about what I hate about italic fonts.

This doesn't apply to all italic fonts. Only some. The fonts that don't really have their own italic font; their designer just tilted the letters a little to make it look italic... but also ugly.

(for example, take this font. Copse does not have a good italic base. It's only good for using normally.)

What I hate about those italic fonts is, when you've finally found that awesome, stunning font that is absolutely to die for, when you try to type something in italics the font just explodes in utter failure; the letters are tilted at a bad angle; the font looks... plain; even though there are only a few sentences or words in italic, it ruins the whole page you have written; etc.

The Top 5 Worst Fonts In Italic (out of the good ones) would probably have to include:
(I'll count down from five to build up some suspense)

#5 - Champagne & Limousines
Champagne & Limousines is a good font, based off of Century Gothic. But when you try to use italics in this font, it is one of the worst things you'll ever see in italic font disasters!!!

#4– Copse
Copse is a well designed font, although when italic is used , it turns into a jumble of font crap. The other problem with this font is that if you use it in sizes between 0 and 24 pt, it looks even worse.

#3 - Geo Sans Light
When using fonts based off of Twentieth Century Monotype (commonly referred to as Tw Cen MT) you have to be careful.. this is the closest font I would ever come even close to using. But the italics in this whole family of fonts is just hideous. The lowercase j looks bad enough non italic!

#2 – Blackout

Blackout is a great font when not used in italic. The letters become slim, tilted too much to the right and the tasteful black filled in areas in the letters such as a, b, d, o, p, q and r become just dark pools of dizzying, headache starting bad design.

#1 – Comic Sans MS
Okay, okay. I know I said out of the good fonts... but I just had to rank this one first. Comic Sans MS is the king of bad fontwork - worst regular, italic, underline, bold italic, bold italic underline, you get the point—this font just had to be first. The already distasteful design of the font just worsens with every letter of italic.

What is the Ivy and Bean Font?

What is the font from the Ivy and Bean series?

Gosh, I've been asking myself the same question for a MILLION years... but I finally found the answer!

Although fonts Caecilla LTD and Nadia Serif are closely related to the font in Ivy and Bean, the main one, Caecilla is to spacey and light to be good enough to use and Nadia... well, there are no quotation marks, commas, or apostrophes... what kind of a font is that? It has good letters but had a very stupid designer.

The answer to the question: Adelle Thin.

The font in Ivy and Bean is Adelle Thin.

The problem is, after three hours of non-stop searching, there is no website that has a free download - the only fonts you can download from the Adelle family is the Adelle Bold and the Adelle Bold Italic.

The price for this font ranges from $36 to about $70, depending on where you're buying from.

Annie Barrows and Sophie Farell (or the company who has published their books) has done just about EVERYTHING to stop people from posting pictures of the font [sample text from the book], they have stopped people from figuring out what font it is, etc - but finally, after years of seaching (for real!) I figured it out.

Adelle Thin and the whole Adelle family font can be downloaded from Adobe Typekit, 101 Free Fonts and Fonts.com. There are also some other websites that carry it too.

Well, that's one more question me and all the font searchers can stop asking themselves. Phew! No more whenever I go looking for fonts, What is the font from Ivy and Bean?
If you haven't heard of Ivy and Bean or Adelle Thin, you can check out both of them here:

Bad Fonts

Today I decided to review some bad fonts.

(You can see my full review of them at the Bad Fonts page).

My top ones were Comic Sans MS, Papyrus and Century Gothic. I originally liked Papyrus and Century Gothic, although I've always hated Comic Sans MS, phew!

Why I hate them? Well, Comic Sans MS is THE MOST HATED FONT IN THE WORLD. I usually defer from popular opinion, (I hate The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Times New Roman, Studio Ghibli, you get the point) for once I agreed. The same goes for Papyrus.

I'm going to keep on adding to it - I thought about reviewing Twentieth Century Monotype (usually referred to as Tw Cen MT) but in 14 it actually looked okay, so I decided against it.

I started looking around the internet for some good ideas on what fonts I should hate - the top two were usually Papyrus (second) and Comic Sans MS (first).

The other fonts, all of which I'd heard of, included Kristen ITC, Jokerman (this one isn't so bad!!), Monotype Corsiva, Playbill, Courier [New], Brush Script, and New Times Roman.

I have to say that Jokerman and Monotype Corsiva are okay. I can totally believe some people don't like Times, Kristen ITC, Playbill and Brush Script.

Here is a link to the Bad Fonts Page, where I reviewed Century Gothic, Times New Roman, Comic Sans MS, Papyrus, Brush Script and more:
